Advanced Communication for Caregivers

Supportive Parenting for the Emotional Well-being of Everyone.

In this workshop we don’t ask you to do more, we accompany you to do less but more effectively.

Advanced Communication for Caregivers is a two-day workshop that teaches parents how to have a more active role in the mental health treatment of their loved ones. This workshop is based on Adele LaFrance's Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, rooted in a deep and unwavering belief in the healing power of families and systems.

If you are a parent whose child is struggling with their mental health or is a ‘super feeler, ’ parenting can be particularly challenging. You have done all the research, reached out to the experts, and done all the “things” to heal your kid, and they (and you!) continue to suffer.

This workshop addresses the unspoken fears that can hinder your ability to support your loved one effectively and the real problem of burn-out you may be feeling.

You will be given concrete skills and tools to empower you to support your loved ones successfully.

Unlock the Power of Your Family's Healing Journey

Rooted in a profound belief in the transformative power of families, this workshop is designed to empower caregivers and significant others to play a vital role in the mental health and wellbeing of their loved ones. Led Dr. Kelly Moore, Ph.D., LICSW, this workshop will guide you through the essential skills, tasks, and emotional nuances involved in four key domains:

Targeted Behavioral Support

Learn to support loved ones by helping them manage symptoms, address maladaptive behaviors (like anxiety, depression, or eating disorders), navigate stressful life events, and encourage healthier habits.

Targeted Emotional Support

Discover ways to support your loved one in approaching, processing, and managing stress, emotions, and emotional pain, making symptoms less necessary as coping mechanisms.

Working Through Fears and Obstacles

Explore strategies for resolving fears and obstacles that may surface during this challenging and novel journey, ensuring your ability to provide effective support.

Facilitating Therapeutic Apologies

Gain insights into facilitating therapeutic apologies to help your loved ones release the weight of old pain, self-blame, and self-stigma.

Advanced Caregiving Workshop could be for you if…

  • You have a highly sensitive child (or super feeler) who doesn’t respond to your current communication style.

  • Your child or young adult is currently struggling with mental illness, addiction or an eating disorder.

  • You feel burnt out and require more support and tools

  • You carry the burden of guilt or shame in your parenting and seek relief and healing.

  • You want to understand how to help your child work through difficult emotions and behaviors, including silence, anger, anxiety, low motivation, hopelessness, and perfectionism.

  • You aim to deepen your connection with your child using the most effective and evidence-based tools.

  • Your neurodivergent child (learning disability, attention deficit disorder, or on the autism spectrum) needs assistance in processing underlying emotions.

  • You find it challenging to set limits or provide comfort for your child, or conversely, you set limits fine but struggle with offering comfort.

Matt Sullivan, Director of Education & Outreach, Aim House

“I have worked as a mental health professional with young adults for over thirteen years, and this workshop is essential to my practice. I have engaged as a participant, trainee, and facilitator, discovering new insights about myself and my family system with each participation. Adopting EFFT as a foundational approach has been transformative for me, personally and professionally. It now serves as the guiding theoretical framework for mentoring training in our program and informs our case conceptualization.”
